I am thrilled to report that I was recently selected as the winner of the 360 Xochi Quetzal Artist Residency in the renowned artist community of Lake Chapala, Mexico, starting in December. This international competition, held several times a year, is named after the goddess of beauty in Mexican mythology. According to the sponsors of the residency, “We base our selections on artists who demonstrate artistic accomplishment, a well-conceived residency project, indication that this residency will make a significant impact and evidence of the self-reliance required for a residency in the developing world.” The residency provides the winner with a lovely private home for a month, as well as a stipend for groceries and transportation to and from the airport in nearby Guadalajara. The only expectation for the winner is that the artist use the residency for whatever activity he/she feels is best for continued self-development.
I am especially excited about this because the new series of works displayed on this website was also begun in Mexico earlier this year. I expect this month in Lake Chapala will be a source of even more inspiration.
